HMS
Bounty Visited
Palm
Beach Maritime Museum on Peanut Island

WEST
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA. John C. Grant, chairman and founder of the Palm
Beach Maritime Museum,
in conjunction with Melbourne Smith, an icon and acclaimed builder of historic
tall ships, including the Pride of Baltimore,
Brig Niagara,
and the Privateer Lynx, arranged for
a visit of the HMS Bounty to the museum’s
dock at Peanut Island. The Bounty is a replica of the British ship
sailed to the South Pacific to gather breadfruit in 1789 resulting in a mutiny
which became the story Mutiny on the Bounty.
HMS Bounty
arrived at the entrance to Lake Worth Inlet at 10:00 AM EST, Saturday November
21, 2009. A flotilla of welcoming vessels
greeted her. She was available for tours through the end of March 2010 and then proceeded northward in company with the Privateer Lynx
to participate in the Great Lakes United TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE during the summer
of 2010.
